Deprecation of App registrations (Legacy) experience and the Application Registration Portal (apps.dev.microsoft.com)

Microsoft identity platform team

Hello Developers!

In May 2019, we announced general availability of a new unified App registrations experience in the Azure portal to give developers a central place to register and configure all their apps that sign in Azure Active Directory accounts and personal Microsoft accounts. With the new App registration experience available to all developers, we are sharing our planned end of life of the Application Registration Portal (apps.dev.microsoft.com) and App registrations (Legacy) experience.

When is this happening?

You may have already seen deprecation warnings within both the Application Registration Portal and the App registrations (Legacy) experience. Additionally, we will no longer provide feature updates to these experiences. Below you will find specific timelines for deprecation for each portal.

Application Registration Portal (apps.dev.microsoft.com):

After December 15, 2019, users with Azure AD accounts will no longer be able to register and manage applications in the Application Registration Portal. Registering and managing apps for users with personal Microsoft accounts is no longer available, except for Live SDK applications. Live SDK applications are not yet supported in the new App registration experience, but we expect support in the near future.

App registrations (Legacy):

After March 1, 2020, users will no longer be able to register and manage applications in the App registrations (Legacy) experience.

Next Steps

To help you transition to the new experience you can review our training guide about the new App registrations experience. For those who have used the App registrations (Legacy) experience you can review our App registrations (Legacy) experience training guide. If you have used the Application registration Portal (apps.dev.microsoft.com) experience, review our Application Registration Portal experience training guide.

Thank you in advance for transitioning to our new App registration experience. We are excited about the improvements we have made to the new App registration experience such as improved navigation and easy access to documentation, quickstarts and code samples. Send us feedback using the “Got feedback?” option in the new experience – and thank you for using Microsoft identity platform.
