Next Gen Immersive Audio: Spatial Sound & Project Acoustics


This presentation will explore how we can take immersive audio to the next level in our games.  By taking advantage of platform features, technologies and next gen hardware offerings, developers have the ability to bring deeply immersive audio experiences to their games, without sacrificing resources to accomplish it.  We will look at Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, Advanced acoustic technologies such as Project acoustics, the possibilities of ray traced reflection techniques, and tie it all together with the promises of Series X/S audio HW processors.​

Q: Tell us about your role at Microsoft

A: I am Robert Ridihalgh, an Audio Specialist in the Advanced Technology Group at Xbox. In my role I drive audio technology adoption, innovation and incubations for gaming and accessibility.  I also lead the Game Audio at Microsoft community where we Innovate, Create, Share and Collaborate on all things audio across Xbox and Microsoft.

Q: What can attendees expect to hear from your talk?

A: Target audience for this talk is any audio person doing game development, but also more generally to anyone who is interested in bringing more immersive gaming to consumers.

Q: What's something interesting we can expect to learn from your talk?

A: This talk is all about bringing more immersive gaming to the world through audio,  taking advantage of the new generation of hardware, technologies and platforms to make gaming more exciting and accessible for everyone.
