Xbox Velocity Architecture: Faster game asset streaming and minimal load times for games of any size

The ne​w Xbox Velocity Architecture in the Xbox Series X|S consoles enables developers to re-imagine how to build their games. By combining a super-fast SSD, hardware decompression, and the new DirectStorage functionality, game developers have tools to develop immersive experiences with a minimal load time for players. This session will review the benefits of the Velocity Architecture and show a real-world example.

Q: Tell us about your role at Microsoft

A: I'm a Program Manager on the Gaming Experiences and Platform team within Xbox. I've been at Microsoft for 18 years, and I've spent the last eight years working on the Xbox operating system. My teams are responsible for the Xbox OS kernel, virtualization stack, and storage.

Q: What can attendees expect to hear from your talk?

A: This talk is aimed at game developers who are interested in learning more about the Xbox Velocity Architecture - including how to use the cutting-edge features present in the Xbox Series consoles to develop richer, more immersive content for their games.

Q: What's something interesting we can expect to learn from your talk?

A: We developed a custom application that will demonstrate all the features that I talk about in the session, such as sampler feedback, so viewers will get a sense of what the Xbox Velocity Architecture can do." ​
