Microsoft 365 PnP – General Developer SIG recording – 16th of April 2020

Recording of the Microsoft 365 – General M365 development Special Interest Group (SIG) community call from April 16, 2020.

Call Summary

Latest news from Microsoft 365 & SharePoint engineering.  PnP CSOM Core Library, PnP PowerShell, and Modernization tooling (and scanner) version updates were released on April 10.  Highlights include: CSOM Core – create an App Catalog for a tenant using new extension method as well create modern team sites with app-only access token.  PnP PowerShell – 5 new cmdlets, one of which is demoed today.   Now General Availability for term mapping support in Modernization tooling.  yo Teams update 2.13.0 released April 16, includes SSO tabs and switch from request to Axios npm modules.   For each tool, capabilities targeted for completion this quarter were reviewed.

Three demos are delivered in this session.

  1. SharePoint Lists custom formatting – Hover cards – new functions that allow admins to define custom call outs (cards) for column and view formatting that can be commissioned on user defined actions like click or hover.  Alternatively, when there is a default hover card, users can now have a profile card or file hover card on formatters as well.
  2. Intro to Taxonomy & Content Type REST APIs – a developer focused preview of new SharePoint REST APIs
for TermStore and Content Types services.  14 new Content Type SharePoint REST APIs work at both site and hub levels. APIs v2.1 and documentation will ship by end of May, then related Graph APIs will likely roll out by end of June.
  3. Introduction to Initialize-PnPPowerShellAuthentication cmdlet – that greatly streamlines app registration.   The new cmdlet available now, allows admins to authenticate towards their SharePoint tenants and Graph (and other scopes) with an
app only registration created in Azure AD. This cmdlet executes the entire registration/authentication process in 60 seconds.

The call was hosted by Vesa Juvonen (Microsoft). ACTION: Call attention to your great work by using the #PnPWeekly in Twitter.
