Steps to reproduce

Environment: IE11 11.0.9600.18524CO Update Version 11.0.37

Issue: In our website navigating around will constantly leak memory on the tab. Navigation includes refresh from F5 or simply going to a different link within the application. Memory for the tab is not cleaned up on the page unload. This has been seen on IE 11 and Edge. However we have pulled the lastest Edge VMs and noticed the issue has been resolved in Edge.

When developer tools are open the tab will always leak memory. This can be seen by opening the developer tools on www.google.com and hitting f5 while on the memory tab. It will continuously increase. To properly check this behavior we had to monitor the windows task manager. Once the tab has been identified in the task manager refreshing on our page will show the leak as the memory usage will continue to rise. For pages with a small amount of data loaded this is 20-30 mb per refresh. However for our data intensive pages it will leak 250-400 mb of data each refresh.

Reproduction: Please see the following bug and comments I have made on it. It provides a sample page that includes the memory leak. Note I have verified that this is fixed in the latest edge VM, however it is not possible for many of our customers to upgrade so I am filing a ticket for IE 11 in hopes it can be resolved.

Comments from https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/platform/issues/8020622/:

I downloaded the latest edge preview VM 39.14959.1000.0 from https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/tools/vms/. (I choose Microsoft Edge on Window 10 Preview 15.14959)
It has fixed the memory leak on refresh of the page and general navigation for our application.

Update on your demo: I just loaded your example in the preview vm, using only the task manager to check the memory usage and it does not appear to be leaking memory anymore. I verified that your zip demo was leaking in my old IE11 version.

      Thank you for your
feedback and sorry to hear that you are having difficulties with Internet
Explorer. However we’re not presently working on feature bugs in Internet
      Explorer outside of security-related issues.

      Alternatively, if
you have a premier support contract you can visit https://premier.microsoft.com and open
a support incident and work with an engineer to address this issue.

      Best regards,
