Steps to reproduce

Head to the following jsfiddle:

Double click on "PURPLE", hit ctrl + c to copy the selection to the clipboard, now paste it into the HTML checker content editable box. The purple background colour isn’t copied. I would expect it to be copied to the clipboard and allow the user to paste with the background colour still intact.

Now make a drag selection from the start of “PURPLE” to the end of “BLUE” so that both “PURPLE” and “BLUE” are selected. Depending on exactly where the drag started from, either both the purple background and the blue background are copied to the clipboard and successfully pasted into the HTML checker box, or just the blue background is copied.

IE11, Firefox, and Edge all have this issue.
Chrome and Safari copy the background colours correctly.
