Steps to reproduce
- Open Microsoft Edge
- Navigate to Gmail or a domain that uses Gmail as its mail interface
- Open any email that contains a link to an exterior site
- Click the link
- Observe that a new, blank tab has opened with nothing in the URI
- Observe that the Gmail tab is now reloading itself, as if one had hit the refresh button
This is 100% reproducible on my Windows 10 machine. It happens with every single link. Additionally if you click enough links, eventually the Gmail tab refuses to reload at all, giving an error message, and you have to re-navigate to the URI manually to get it to come back up.
Workaround: right-click and “open in new tab” works for all links.

Thank you for providing this information about the issue. We are unable to reproduce this behavior in Edge 14393. We will continue to investigate issue #10294127 to find a solution for those isolated incidents.

I can repeat it 100% of the time. In fact I did when opening the link in the email I received saying that the bug was updated.
Interestingly, this bug seems to have resolved itself for me recently. I’m still on the same version of Edge. Perhaps it was something they changed on Google’s end.
