I am getting ‘undefined’ error while working on runtime.connectNative().

  • I tried to use SecureInput sample of extension for MSEdge that can be found here https://github.com/MicrosoftEdge/MicrosoftEdge-Extensions-Demos/tree/master/SecureInput
    The demo referenced from this documentation on native messaging that can be found here

    This line in background page fails
    port = browser.runtime.connectNative(“NativeMessagingHostInProcessService”);
    It is apparently not defined in browser.runtime.
    Tried it on Microsoft Edge 38.14393.0.0
    My windows 10 os is updated with the latest latest updates. So i am not sure why i missing this function…

  • Same as above but with OS Build 15025.1000 and Microsoft Edge 40.15025.1000.0.
    connectNative undefined exception in the SecureInput example code.
