Steps to reproduce

My application is currently using ActiveX object to access/read a file on client machine using the physical path of the file. But this is not working in Microsoft Edge as it doesn’t allow/support ActiveX (a less secure technology).

File API which enables Microsoft Edge to provides ability to read files from the local file on client machine, allow access to file via input [type=file] element or drag-and-drop box which requires user interaction. But my requirement is to remove user interaction and programmatically (through Javascript) access/read the local file using the given physical path.

I want an alternative to ActiveX object to access/read local file using path in Microsoft Edge.

If I could create a File Object (File API) using the physical file path then this can be achieved.

Please help me out.
