Steps to reproduce

Can you allow us to open downloads directly without having to save them locally please. I’m losing so much productivity using Edge. I’m starting to hate this browser.

  • Hello,

Thank you for providing this information about the issue. Some file types and some web designs may not allow you to open a file without saving it first. In order to assist you, please update this case with new details such as steps to reach a sample download link where we can repro this problem.

    Best Wishes,

  • Calendar Invites, pdfs and any other files that you download from the internet. Specifically, what files can be downloaded and run from Edge. I think the answer is none.

  • Hello,

Thank you for your continued assistance. I confirmed most file types are allowed to be opened directly in the browser, the only types not allowed are typically executable and compressed files (zip, tar, exe).

Here is a sample link which loads in Edge http://casaole.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/COE_To-Go_Menu_2014.pdf

If you still have problems, we will need a specific sample to test.

  • My issue is .ics files, okay?

  • Changed Title from “Allow me to open downloads directly...” to “Allow me to open .ics files downloads directly in Edge”

  • I changed the title to make this more specific.

  • Hello,

Thank you for providing this information about the issue. Unfortunately, this type of file is a calendar appointment and is not compatible with browsers. The file must be downloaded and opened by a program like Outlook. Currently, we do not plan to change this process, but please feel welcome to submit your request at http://uservoice.microsoftedge.com where other developers can up-vote your suggestion.

    Best Wishes,
    The MS Edge Team
