Error 800a025e removing document selection

Steps to reproduce

  1. Open jsbin sample in IE11:
  2. Select text as described in the sample page, including text next to a radio input but not including the radio button itself.
  3. Click “Clear selection”
  4. Error occurs: “Could not complete the operation due to error 800a025e.”
  5. Selection is still selected.
  6. Click anywhere else in the page to clear the selection.

Note: does not occur in Edge 13 or 14. This issue affects a highlighter tool I’m maintaining for an education testing platform, and many schools still use IE11.

    Thank you for letting us know about this issue.  We are no longer taking feedback on Internet Explorer.  You can visit and open a support incident and work with our support team to address this IE issue.

    However, I will tell you that I was not able to reproduce the error you are seeing.  I tested this in IE on Windows 10 version 14393 and a recent Windows 10 internal build, i.e. similar to a build for developers on the Fast insider track.

    I recommend trying your tests on another Windows 10 installation and checking the Event Logs using 'Event Viewer’.

    Please consider providing your screen record or screenshots (Step Recorder - Steps below) along with details about your environment such build information and hardware details.  You can also use DxDiag.exe for that.  For OS build, please run winver.exe in the start menu.

    To run a DxDiag.exe report follow the steps below:

    1.  Search for dxdiag, then select it from the results.
    2.  In the tool, select “Save All Information” for an easily shared format.

    To record and save steps on your computer

    1.  Open Problem Steps Recorder by clicking the Start button and then typing psr. In the list of results, click psr.
    2.  Click Start Record. On your computer, go through the steps on your computer to reproduce the problem. You can pause the recording at any time, and then resume it later.
    3.  Click Stop Record.
    4.  In the Save As dialog box, type a name for the file, and then click Save (the file is saved with the .zip file name extension).

    To view the record of the steps you recorded, open the .zip file you just saved, and then double-click the file. The document will open in your browser.

    We will most likely close this as “won’t fix” due to our focus on the Edge Browser.

We are sorry to hear that you have this issue with Internet Explorer.  We are not presently working on feature bugs in Internet Explorer outside of security-related issues.  Because this issue is not in Edge as you mentioned, we recommend you contact Microsoft support options for business.
