Steps to reproduce

If you try to zoom out with the minus button next to “Zoom” in the Edge ellipsis menu (or by using any of the zoom keyboard/mouse shortucts) when viewing an SVG file, edge zooms in instead. Oddly, it works properly on a regular web page.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. I’ve attached an SVG from one of the Edge team’s recent blog posts (in case you don’t have an SVG handy). Download it.
  2. Open an SVG in edge.
  3. Try to zoom out to make it smaller. This can be done by clicking Edge’s ellipsis menu and then the minus button next to the zoom percentage, or by holding Ctrl and rolling the mouse wheel down, or by holding Ctrl and pressing the hyphen key on the keyboard.

Expected behavior:

SVG should render smaller and zoom % should go down.

Actual behavior:

SVG renders larger and zoom % goes up, with no way to zoom back out other than the “reset zoom” keyboard shortcut (Ctrl+0).

    Changed Status to “Not reproducible”

  • Hello,

Thank you for providing this information about the issue. After thorough testing, we are unable to reproduce this problem in Edge: the public stable, insider preview and future builds. Every time we were able to zoom in and out as expected. Please update this case when you can provide more details, such as video capture or perhaps run dxdiag (Windows key + r and type dxdiag, enter, then click Save all Information and attach the txt file).

    Best Wishes,
    The MS Edge Team

  • Changed Status from “Not reproducible”

  • This is on a Surface Studio with the 4GB NVIDIA 980m and DPI scaling set to 150% running on a clean install of Build 15063.

Here’s a GIF using the SVG I attached (every time the zoom resets, that’s when I pressed Ctrl+0):

I’ll upload the dxdiag info too.

  • One odd thing I just noticed when looking at DxDiag.txt… It says my DPI setting is 200 percent, while I’ve definitely set it to 150%. Screenshot attached as proof.

  • Reproduces 100% of the time for me, with any SVG.

    Changed Status to “Confirmed”

  • I have the same problem with an SVG I am creating using DOT Language; both the mouse wheel and the options to zoom out actually zoom in.

    Work around
If one uses Ctrl with the numeric keypad input + or -, the zooming does work as expected.
    Zoom in Ctrl+
    Zoom out Ctrl-
    Reset Ctrl*

  • Update for the Work around

Part of the foreground image must be seen to use Ctrl with the numeric keypad input + or -. If the image is zoomed in and only the background is showing then this does not work; need to use the scroll bars to move to a part of the image with a foreground then use Ctrl with the numeric keypad input + or -.

  • Changed Status from “Not reproducible”

  • Hello,

I noticed you changed the status to "not reproducable". I’m curious if you’re in a newer build with a fix built-in, or if you’re on the current stable release (Microsoft Edge 41.16299.15.0), as I can still reproduce this issue 100% of the time on the Fall Creator’s Update release of Edge.

  • I see that the Status is undefined instead of Confirmed.

I’m able to reproduce this issue with Windows 10 Home Version 1809 (Edge 44.17763.1.0). If a page is zoomed at 100%, then zooming out on the SVG is fine. But…

    1. Open page.
    2. Zoom in (Ctrl +) to 125%.
    3. Click the SVG image.
    4. Observe that zoom out (Ctrl -) does nothing.
    5. Zoom in once more.
    6. Observe that zoom out (Ctrl -) instead zooms in.
    7. Reset zoom (Ctrl 0).
    8. Observe that Zoom is 125% instead of 100%.

If the Windows 10 setting for Display’s “Scale and Layout” is set to 100% then this bug doesn’t occur. But if it’s set to 125% then the above occurs. Similarly, if it’s set to 150% then Ctrl 0 uses 150% as the default and Ctrl - isn’t initially disabled.
