Steps to reproduce

It just happened today that Edge browser load any websites with only black and white dots.
The symptoms are:

  1. black and white dots.
  2. It plays video properly.
  3. opening same page with explorer or chrome works fine.
  4. new tabs work fine.

I don’t know what went wrong. All other browers are fine. It’s just Edge. hope there is any fix. I tried to search everywhere but couldn’t fine any solution.

  • Where you by chance using any graphics debug tools?  I believe there is an option, and it might have been a plugin I used that allowed enabling a grid/dot overlay to help position and size web elements.

    Thanks for the help and I will continue to look for ways this could be enabled.


  • I don’t have any edge extension nor debug tool. I do use nVIDIA control panel though.

  • I also installed KMPlayer (video player) before this thing happened to edge browser.
    Although I don’t see any correlation.

  • I agree.  A driver update would make more sense, especially since you don’t see this issue when watching videos.  KMPlayer most likely installed a few codecs, I don’t think it would change mime types, however, you only see this on the startup page, which again makes we think driver issue, e.g. memory management.

    Would you mind providing DirectX
    diagnostic data for me? 
    You can use DxDiag.exe
    for that.


    To run a DxDiag.exe report
    follow the steps below:


    1.  Search for dxdiag, then select it from the

    2.  In the tool, select “Save All Information”
    for an easily shared format.

  • Just uploaded it. Only thing I remember about nVIDIA control panel is I changed some settings in Mangae 3D settings and a driver update I believe. I also use digital vibrance nVIDIA offers.
