  • Where you by chance using any graphics debug tools?  I believe there is an option, and it might have been a plugin I used that allowed enabling a grid/dot overlay to help position and size web elements.

Thanks for the help and I will continue to look for ways this could be enabled.

  • I don’t have any edge extension nor debug tool. I do use nVIDIA control panel though.

  • I also installed KMPlayer (video player) before this thing happened to edge browser.
Although I don’t see any correlation.

  • I agree.  A driver update would make more sense, especially since you don’t see this issue when watching videos.  KMPlayer most likely installed a few codecs, I don’t think it would change mime types, however, you only see this on the startup page, which again makes we think driver issue, e.g. memory management.

    Would you mind providing DirectX
    diagnostic data for me?
    You can use DxDiag.exe
    for that.

    To run a DxDiag.exe report
    follow the steps below:

    1.  Search for dxdiag, then select it from the
    results.

    2.  In the tool, select “Save All Information”
    for an easily shared format.

    Then upload and attach the
saved output file to this post.

    Appreciate it,

    Steve

  • Just uploaded it. Only thing I remember about nVIDIA control panel is I changed some settings in Mangae 3D settings and a driver update I believe. I also use digital vibrance nVIDIA offers.

  • Hi,
I see some items of interest in the dxdiag log you posted.  I included some of the things I noticed at the end of this response, E.g. desktop manager crashing, video player crashing, update failure, etc.

I would like you to try a couple of tests.  Run a quick test after each test.

    1. Re-install or “reset” Edge.  Alternatively, you can create a new ‘Test’ admin user account on your system.  Login to that ‘Test’ user account and Install the latest graphics drivers and test.
Here are the instructions to perform a “reset” on the browser.  I am referring you to the post by Amy Love at the following link:
      https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-performance/microsoft-edge-problem-since-creators-update/39043642-939f-48fe-8239-5269ba30da10
You would have to click “All replies” to see her post.  Look for the post on April 19, 2017, that starts with “To further assist you with your Microsoft Edge issue, we suggest that you perform a reset on the browser.” and then follow the instructions.
    1. Log back into your original user account and uninstall KMPlayer

    2. Uninstall digital vibrance

    3. Do a clean re-install of the latest drivers

    4. Do a clean re-install of older drivers for your card.  I believe the 352.xx had high performance and stable.  You could also skip the previous two steps if you try installing the older drivers in the ‘Test’ user account.

Let me know what you find,

  • Hi, As I updated nVidia driver 384.76 the edge works fine now.
I can’t provide any dxdiag because, shortly after, my motherboard had a power failure.
I am writing on a new computer, but I just wanted to share how those symptoms were gone after nVidia driver update.
    Thanks

  • Seo,

That is good news about the graphic driver update resolving the issue.

Sorry to hear about the motherboard.  :-(

    Appreciate the support,
