  • Hi Vlad,

Did you change the default hotkey?  Verify in the “Control Panel” > “Clock, Language, and Regions” > "Language > “Advanced settings” if you have the “Let me set a different input method for each app window.” set?  See the attached screen-capture.

One more question, which Russian language are you using?  Screenshot of the options attached.  I tried to repro this using “Russian” but was not successful.

    Thank you for the help,

    The MS Edge Team

  • Hi Steven,
I have this issue on my laptop too.

    Display language: English (United States)
    Region: Russia
    Second keyboard layout: Russian (Russia)
    Default hotkey: LAlt + Shift.
Option “Let me set a different input method for each app window.” is not set.
    Version 1703 build 15063.413.

  • Hello, having similar issue.
I have custom input language switch combo: Right Ctrl + Shift. Inside the Edge, address bar and find bar do respond in an expected manner, but anywhere inside a page it doesn’t work. The default combination (Left Alt + Shift) does work inside page, though, and it is unexpected.

  • Can everyone tell me the detailed version on Windows 10 you are using when this issue happens?  Win + s and then type 'winver’.  E.g. 16251.1001

    Appreciate the help.

  • Sure, 15063.483 here.

  • I have the same problem. Windows 10 Pro Ann Update

  • Same issue here since AU.
    Windows 10 Pro AU.
    OS build: 15063.608
    Microsoft Edge 40.15063.0.0
    Microsoft EdgeHTML 15.15063
    Display language: Russian
    Region: Russia
Second keyboard layout: English (United States)
    Default hotkey: LAlt+Shift
Option “Let me set a different input method for each app window.” is not set.

If I try to switch input language a few times over and over again it starts working fine for the loaded page. But it doesn’t work for other loaded pages (tabs). If I open new page (e.g. by Ctrl+T) switching doesn’t work on the page until I press Alt+Shift a few times. I see how language icon blinks in systray, input language is switched to another one and it is switched back at the same moment. Input language isn’t switched only if focus is on page (e.g. m_tabContentDCompVisualElement control) if focus is on address bar (e.g. addressEditBox control) all works fine.
BTW, Win+Space and Virtual keyboard works fine.

I’m not sure about RDP if it doesn’t work too. I’ll check it. I’ll let you know if there is something new.

  • Same problem with Bulgarian (Phonetic) input. Happens seemingly randomly. Everyone I know who uses edge and has to switch input languages has the same issue from time to time. It happens on all 4 machines I use (a laptop and 3 desktops).

  • Hi guys again. First of all, I don’t know why my name is displayed as Anonymous on the site. Perhaps, it is because of Cyrillic symbols in my name. I wrote post on Sep 16.

I checked RDP the same issue. Also

    1. I downloaded Windows 10 image from https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/tools/vms/ page. I selected following image:
    • MSEdge on Win10 (x64) Stable (15.15063)
    • HyperV (Windows)
    1. Changed Country or region to Russia on the Settings screen
    2. Added second language just Russian
    3. Changed Time zone to UTC+3 Moscow (not sure if it makes sense)
    4. Installed last OS updates. Version 1703; OS Build 15063.608; Last installed update is KB4038788
    5. Run MS Edge
    6. Run On-Screen Keyboard (not touch screen on taskbar)
    7. Typed “test” string and searched it.
    8. Clicked on search field on opened Bing page.
    9. Clicked Alt+Shift

Language was changed for second try only. I attached two gif images. They show the process. If you wish I can share the OS image with you. I hope it is allowed because it is public developer OS images (inputlanguage.gif and inputlanguage_findfield.gif).

  • Exactly the same problem! Win10 15063.632

  • I have exactly the same issue on my work and home computer too. Windows 10 Pro version 1703, OS Build 15063.674.
I have 2 keyboard languages set (English as primary and Hungarian). When I’m using Edge (version: Microsoft Edge 40.15063.674.0) I have to use left alt + shift twice to switch to HUN, and sometimes (a lot of times) I can’t switch back to ENG (with left alt + shift) only if I click on the taskbar, or on an other window.

  • I have noticed an interesting behavior related to this issue. On about half the occasions it happens changing it with the mouse from the taskbar once is not enough. I click on the other input language and the thing is reset. I have to click twice to change it as if edge somehow overrides the first click. This happens with the mouse, shortcuts outright refuse to work no matter how many times I press them.

  • I have the same troubles on the all my computers with Windows 10 Pro/Ent (2 PCs, Laptop and Surface). In addition, I know at least 6 users with the same experience (some of them have already switched to an alternative browser and I’ve started to think about it too ;( ).

  • Windows 10 has been updated to 1709 (Build OS 16299.19).
    Microsoft Edge 41.16299.15.0
    Microsoft EdgeHTML 16.16299

    The issue is still there.
