Steps to reproduce

When I open PDFs in Edge and try to save them Edge will not cache the file name in the save dialogue box. Why? This waste tons of my day when I need to download lots of files.

UPDATED REPRO STEPS (by MS Team)

  1. Visit https://techprovider.intel.com/us-en-ivtc-2017-reg
  2. Register without an ID
  3. On the next page, click the “Login Now” button
  4. In the next page, click “Install Adobe Flash Player”
  5. Allow flash
  6. Click “Prizes & Incentives” and then the “Download” button -OR- simply visit https://intelvs.on24.com/vshow/ivtcspring2017/IVTC%20Spring%202017%20Prizes%20%20Incentives-8F14.pdf?command=internalDoc&action=getDoc&contentId=1446661&currentTradeshowId=1422605&currentUserId=173831305

Try to save the PDF. Browser should save as "IVTC Spring 2017 Prizes  Incentives-8F14.pdf", but instead saves as "untitled.pdf".

  • Hello,

Thank you for providing this information about the issue. After thorough testing, we are unable to reproduce this problem in Edge. Please test this behavior in our latest creator’s update 15063 or the insider build 16215. If you still have the problem, please provide us with a sample PDF and repro steps.

    Best Wishes,

  • I hope they fire you guys. You provide zero value. All you due is claim the next update version is the fix and that’s never the case. Register here and try to download resources https://techprovider.intel.com/us-en-ivtc-2017-reg#agenda

  • Hello,

Thank you for providing further information about the issue. Unfortunately, we are unable to reproduce this problem in Edge 15063 and 16215. Specifically, there is not a place to register, but I was able to view http://images.plan.intel.com/Web/IntelCorporation/%7Bcee49af3-0a49-4dad-bf7c-f8734fca3523%7D_IVTC-Spring-Agenda_us-en.pdf and test the various save options: (1) right-click, Save as (2) “Save as” button on PDF menu (3) Ctrl + S. In all cases, the file name is captured.

If you still require assistance, please run dxdiag (Windows key + r and type dxdiag, enter, then click Save all Information) and attach the txt file.

    Best Wishes,
    The MS Edge Team

  • You need to scroll up and to the top and register to access the content. The save content doesn’t work consistently. Once you register, you’ll have to enter the resources and you’ll see tons of content to download.

  • Hello,

Thank you for providing this information about the issue. The limitation is that we look for .pdf extension in the URL to capture the name of the PDF file while saving it. If it is not there then we default it to untitled.pdf. Currently, we do not plan to release a fix for this problem. We are considering a solution for a future build.

    Best Wishes,
