Steps to reproduce

Using a Surface Pro 4 with the 'Creators Update’, when I tap on text fields on many websites (google.com search box, bing.com search box, twitter.com log in text field, outlook.com log in text field, etc.) a horizontal scroll bar appears on top of the virtual keyboard. Please see attached screenshot (I put a red rectangle around the scroll bar in the screenshot)

  • Hello,

Thank you for providing this information about the issue. After thorough testing, we are unable to reproduce this problem in Edge. This appears to be a scroll bar for the bottom of the webpage you are viewing, which is caused when the vertical scroll bar is added and the width of the webpage no longer fits your monitor.

Currently, we do not plan to release a fix for this problem. We are considering a solution for a future build.

    Best Wishes,
    The MS Edge Team

  • But James, you said you weren’t able to reproduce, then you said the horizontal scroll bar appears because of the addition of the vertical scroll bar appearing (because the on-screen keyboard opening up causes the vertical scroll bar to appear). So you did reproduce it…
There has to be a solution to this…

  • So does that mean Edge is right in showing that horizontal scroll bar and Firefox and Chrome are wrong for NOT showing it? There’s something not right about this behavior and someone should look into it more closely. A horizontal scroll bar appearing every time you tap on a text field is just not right

  • Hello,

Thank you for providing an update. I am unable to reproduce the problem, even on a Surface Pro 4 with EdgeHTML 15063. I determined what appears to be the cause from your screenshot, but not from a repro.

If this is simply a side-effect from adding the vertical scrollbar first, as I suspect, then we are already working on the problem via internal case 12270683.

    Best Wishes,

  • Thank you James!
