Login / password dialog doesn't appear in foreground

Steps to reproduce

In Edge for Desktops (build 11.483.15063.0), I’ve discovered the following issue:

  1. Open a new browser window.
  2. Open a website that uses a .htaccess / .htpasswd access authentication technology (e.g. your router through e.g.,, etc.)
  3. As soon as you hit enter, Edge shows “Waiting for…” (see edge_1.png). However, the login / password input dialog (see edge_2.png) doesn’t appear in the foreground. It stays in the background.

This behavior is not obvious for the user. I was first thinking that my router is not working till I’ve realized that the dialog is simply waiting in the background. Would be great to have this issue fixed.

  • Hi Patrick,

    I think you are using IE and not Edge?  We are not working on feature bugs in Internet Explorer outside of security-related issues.  Can you try this test using Edge?

    Also, I believe this issue could be specific to that router’s admin webpage.  Might try opening the debugger (F12).

    Yes, you’re right. The issue affects IE and not Edge.

    However, the issue is not specific to my router but seems to be generic. It also occurs when I’m trying to access a protected area of my website: http://www.patrickfrei.ch/stat

    The debugger cannot be opened as it’s blocked by the login / password dialog waiting in the background. Hope that helps you to identify the cause of the issue!
