IE 11 Trusted Sites File Downloads issue

Steps to reproduce

We set up a support request which was dealt with by anajay@microsoft.com (REG:117100216426223). We’ve now been instructed to report the issue here.

Issue Definition:

You have an internal application https://qa.vbr.perivantechnology.co.uk/web/application/customer which is used for uploading and downloading files. File downloading inside the site when added to Trusted zone is not working fine with file download option for Internet zone disabled.

You have File Downloads option disabled for the Internet Zone and enabled for Trusted Sites and the site is added to Trusted Sites. When changing the setting File Downloads disabled for the Internet Zone, you are getting an error as hello.txt couldn’t be downloaded from your application which is loading under Trusted Site.

Below is a simple function used in downloading the files on the client side. This works fine with file downloads enabled for the Internet Zone.

var filename = "hello.txt";
var blob = new Blob([content], { type: “text/plain” });
window.navigator.msSaveOrOpenBlob(blob, filename);

You need assistance in downloading the files without any error when added to Trusted Sites with file download option for Internet zone disabled as your organization doesn’t want to download any files from Internet zone.

OS: Windows 7, Windows 10
Product: IE11 (11.0.46)

      A couple of things.

      1. The issue we are reporting relates to IE 11.
      2. You can reproduce the issue using this site which has some very basic code in it https://plnkr.co/edit/9zDBmS1JlMGyM4SeFVQR?p=preview. Simply follow the same instructions but using plnkr.co instead.
