Steps to reproduce

Printers on my home network are shared with all of the Windows 10 computers in the home. Edge will not print to a network shared printer. Chrome does. Firefox does. Please either fix the printing bug in Edge or stop the annoying pop-ups telling me Edge is better. I don’t care how much better Edge might be in other categories, until it can Print, I won’t be using it. Edge “thinks” it has printed something but nothing ever goes

    • Hello,

Thank you for providing this information about the issue. After thorough testing, we are unable to reproduce this problem in Edge. Please test this behavior in our latest public stable build 15063 or the insider build 17017.

    • I am sorry for the delay. I have been away. I will try to get Edge to upgrade to 15063 and test it. Perhaps you can advise me how to get insider build 17017?

I have a desktop computer with printers attached to it. These printers are shared with other computers on my private home network. Edge will not print from any of the computers. I can reproduce the error any time you like. The only work around I have found is to use Microsoft Print to PDF to save the print image as a PDF to the desktop, then open Adobe Acrobat and print from that. Firefox and Chrome print to the same printers just fine from every device on my private home network.

    • There are lots of similar reported problems with being unable to print from Edge. Edge does not seem to be able to update to newer versions until Windows 10 is updated. Please advise how I get to Edge to upgrade to a newer version. My Windows 10 thinks it is up to date.

    • Hello,

Please search for the word “insider” via Cortana and go to Windows Insider Program settings, or go to Start menu, Settings cog, Update & Security, Windows Insider Program and choose Skip ahead to next Windows release
      and Windows Insider Fast
      .

The update should occur over the next few days; let me know if you have any trouble getting the update.

    • Hello,

Update: The insider preview is beta and might be too risky; be sure to have backups of important data and restore point in case something breaks. I recommend you update to 16299 Creator’s Update instead.

    • Thank you for the suggestion. I have updated to what was called Creator’s Update. I show Windows 10 version 1703 OS Build 15063.674 The Edge version is 15.15063. No changes. Edge still will not print to network attached printers. When I check for Updates, there are none. Do I take the Insider route to get to version 16299?

    • I should add that Edge will print if I physically attach the printer using a cable to the Windows 10 computer. Even though Edge can see the network attached printer, and goes through the process of printing to it, nothing makes it to the printer. All other apps with print options work fine.

    • Do I need to have all computers on my home network running the same version of Windows 10 for Edge to be able to print?

    • Hello,

The creator’s update should be 16299. Here is the official page explaining how to get it: https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexperience/2017/10/17/get-windows-10-fall-creators-update/

All of the computers do not need to have the same Windows version to access the shared printer.

    • I have all computers at 16299 now. Edge will print from the computer where it is physically attached to a USB port, but will not print from the other computers on the network. The print dialogue comes up, and Edge appears to be printing to the shared network printer, but nothing happens. Does Edge require a Homegroup to exist? The printers are currently shared without a Homegroup. Firefox and Chrome and all other applications print just fine from all computers. Should I try creating a Homegroup? One of my printers is capable of connecting wirelessly to the home network. Should I try connecting it by wireless to see if for some reason that allows Edge to print to it?

    • Hello,

Thank you for providing this information about the issue. Yes, please try creating a Homegroup. If the problem is still not fixed, please try connecting by wireless and let us know your results.

      Changed Status to “Not reproducible”

    • On the contrary, this is very reproducible if you come to my house. The newer version of Edge or the Homegroup connection is slightly better, as now one computer that is wire connected to the network can print from Edge to the printer that is now network connected and to the direct-connected printer in the Homegroup. The computer that has a wireless connection to my network still cannot print from Edge to either computer. All other applications on that computer print just fine. All except Edge.

    • Changed Status from “Not reproducible”

    • In addition, I have a website with a print icon on it that typically opens a new tab with the “print friendly” page on it. https://www.verywell.com/low-carb-lemon-bar-recipe-2241858 When this print icon is clicked on, the wire-connected computers running Edge open the intended printer friendly page. When the same print icon is clicked on using the wireless connected computer, Edge produces a 403 error.

    • Hello,

Thank you for providing additional information about this issue. Unfortunately, we are unable to repro the problem with wireless connections to shared network printers. Please try these troubleshooting steps at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17420/windows-printer-problems
