Steps to reproduce

Edge after Windows Creators Fall Update (1709) is incompatible with neilsenonline.exe

Neilsenonline.exe is part of the Neilsen market research survey system. Once installed it runs all the time. It does not consume much CPU but does make almost continuous small internet request. This appears to significantly slow down Edge, to the extent that Edge is almost unusable (e.g. takes about 10X normal for any response). I suspect that this is a general bug in Edge, introduced in 1709. I note that many users now complain that Edge is now too slow to use.

Removing neilsen.exe and related components completely removed the slowness of Edge.

    • Hi John,

Can you verify where I can download the installer?  Is it from this website?

Also, I noticed they did not mention support for Edge.  Do you know if they have an updated version?

      Thank you,

    • Sorry, the person who had the problem is a nontechnical end-user. They had joined the Neilsen survey panel some years ago, and never actually ran an installer explicitly.

    • Hi John,

Thank you for clarification and the update.  I will close this ticket.

Let us know if you find any issues with an Edge version.  :-)
