Steps to reproduce

I found a scenario where smooth scrolling (animated scrolling) is not present in Edge, but it IS present in Microsoft Word: in text fields, if you type enough, a vertical scroll bar appears. In this situation, a lot of people prefer to just use the Up and Down arrow keys on their keyboard to scroll up and down the text field (instead of using a mouse wheel or trackpad to scroll). But if you do this in Edge, the scrolling isn’t “smooth” aka animated scrolling. If you do the same in Microsoft Word, the scrolling IS smooth/animated. I’ve attached a screenshot showing an example, notice the text cursor (red arrow), that is what people use to scroll up and down the text field/document. Open a long document in Microsoft Word and try it for yourself to see what I’m talking about

  • I just updated to Windows 10 1709 (build 16299.98) and Edge still lacks smooth/animated scrolling in this scenario…

  • Ok I’ll try to explain better. Sample webpages? The text field I am typing in right now, or a text field to post or comment on reddit. In a text field, if you type enough, a vertical scroll bar appears. While you are typing in this scrollable text field, you can hold down or continuously tap the up and down arrow keys on your keyboard to scroll, but if you scroll in this manner, it is not “smooth” (animated scrolling). Scrolling in this manner is very common, that’s why Microsoft Word DOES have smooth scrolling when you scroll in this manner. (not the microsoft word website, the actual Microsoft Word and Word Mobile apps for Windows). Now, open a long document in Microsoft Word app (NOT the web app or web site, the actual Word Windows applications) and start typing in it, then hold down the up or down arrow keys on your keyboard to scroll up or down the document, notice the scrolling is smooth! I have tried this on several different computers now and all of them have smooth scrolling when I scroll in this manner, but text fields in Edge do not have smooth scrolling aka animated scrolling. They should though. I am attaching a screenshot of some example text fields
