Steps to reproduce

The site geelaw.blog has a browserconfig.xml written according to the guidelines at https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn439794(v=vs.85).aspx.

To reproduce the issue, observe that:

  • The configuration had worked perfectly in Windows 10 version 1607.
  • The live tile functionality stopped working since Windows 10 version 1703.
  • In version 1709, the tile sizes are not respected at all.

On the other hand, windowscentral.com uses inline metadata in HTML, and works well at this time.

Microsoft should fix browserconfig.xml parsing.

    • Hello,

      Thank you for providing this information about the issue. After thorough testing, we are unable to reproduce this problem in Edge; specifically, the tile sizes are always respected in Edge 15063, 16299 and 17035. The tile notifications are not working in Edge 15063, 16299 and 17035. Please provide a sample of the same page but change the code from external config to inline metadata so we can observe the difference.

      Best Wishes,

      The MS Edge Team

    • Hello,

      Thanks for the follow-up. After several tries, it seems to me that the tile size availability behaviour is rather spurious, while I can offer a stable reproduction for Live Tile polling behaviour.

      1. Close Edge, unpin every tile from Start;
      2. Start Edge and navigate to http://fareast.ms/offending.html, then pin this page to Start;
      3. Observe that the tile is pinned to Start, but it has no Live Tile content;
      4. Unpin the tile from Start;
      5. Close and restart Edge (for a fresh begin!), and navigate to http://fareast.ms/good.html, then pin this page to Start;
      6. Observe that the tile is pinned to Start, and it immediately starts to marquee through Live Tile content.

      You can also try pinning and unpinning the two pages a few more times. You may find the size available for the tile varies. It always includes small + medium, occasionally wide, and rarely if not never, large.
