Steps to reproduce

When i start Edge, it hangs for about a minute and then closes. While it hangs, i can browse the settings, but i can’t open new pages, and the opening page is blank (even the default blank page with the news fails to load).
As you can see in the attached screenshot, it seems it stuck at the beginning of when it would start reopening the previous tabs. I think it could be the case because of the “new tab” and the “tab preview” buttons are slided to the right just enough to fit a tab header on the left of them, but the tab header is absolutely invisible.
I’ve used to force close Edge from task manager before i need to restart my pc or when i need more ram (for example because i use android studio in 3 window, or when other ram hungry things are running), because i noticed if i do that, all window and page will be reopened the next time. but now, it can’t do that.
Deleting the app data of Edge is not a solution, as i had important pages opened, but i don’t exactly remember which and where. I would be glad if you could tell where Edge stores the pages which needs to be reopened.

  • Was there an update to this issue. It is affecting multiple windows 10 machines in the organisation I support.

    Yes, there have been at least one update for the same or similar crash signature as in this bug report.  Have you installed the latest updates?

    The information you are looking for is most likely stored in one of the ESE databases or binary files for Edge.  I am not sure which file has the tabs to open, however, you can see a lot of Edge’s configuration and cache in the following location:

    %localappdata%\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe

  • I’m having this exact same issue. Have tried to repair/reset Edge multiple times. What else can I do?

  • Having similar issues since the last update on 3/23/18. Page opens and shows the website it’s trying to reach but never gets there. Crashes in about 30-60 seconds. Had a new router installed and had it replaced but Edge still crashes.
