Steps to reproduce

After installing “Web Media Extensions” from the Windows Store with Edge 16 (build 16299), Ogg and Vorbis based formats can play with HTML5 audio, but not with the Web Audio API (via decodeAudioData()).

Repro URL: https://www.scirra.com/labs/audioCodecTests/

Steps to reproduce: (repeat for each of Ogg Vorbis, Ogg Opus and WebM Vorbis)

  1. Find the format to test in the list
  2. Verify “HTML5 audio support” says "probably", and that it can play with the audio element, indicating the format is supported
  3. Inspect the text after “Web Audio API decodeAudioData() support”

Observed result:
HTML5 audio indicates support (detected via canPlayType), and playback works with the audio element. However passing it to the Web Audio API’s decodeAudioData() method results in an EncodingError exception.

Expected result:
decodeAudioData() should be able to decode the same formats as the audio element.

Note: the WebM Opus section is buggy in a different way and was separately reported at https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/platform/issues/15043862/

    • Thanks for fixing this! Any idea which build the fix will go out in?

Please also take a look at a similar issue which doesn’t appear to have had any activity since December: https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/platform/issues/15043862/

    • Hi Ashley! The fix should be available in RS4_RELEASE builds 17105+. Please note that the fix only addresses the issues with the Ogg Vorbis/Opus content. WebM Vorbis was a different issue so I filed a separate bug for it. I just checked in a fix for that bug this afternoon, so I don’t have an ETA build for it yet but it will be in the RS4 release. As for 15043862, it has also been fixed - please see my comments on that page.
Thank you for taking the time to file feedback! :)

    • Great stuff, thanks a lot!
