Edge sluggish or laggy 3D rotation transform

Steps to reproduce

  1. See jquery plugin demo https://tympanus.net/Development/BookBlock/index4.html or the same implemented here http://www.wonderfulperiod.com/prueba-2

  2. Click on right arrow, or push right arrow in keyboard, or drag and release mouse left button over book.

  3. Watch how page turns in a ‘steppy’ or sluggish way, step by step, not smooth. Before Fall Creators Update, Edge performed this, smoothly (just as Chrome and Firefox or Opera still does currently).

    Thank you for providing this information about the issue. After thorough testing, we are unable to reproduce this problem in Edge 16299. Please try disabling all browser extensions and restarting Edge to see if this fixes the problem.

    Thanks for your reply. I have followed your suggestions and also cleaned cache, downloaded licenses, browsing history, etc and restarted Edge. REsult? Nothing changes, it still has a sluggish behaviour as described.

    I would like to be sure that we are talking about the same: have you compared the posted links with Edge and with Chrome/Firefox? If so, do you see them play it smooth as silk? Even Edge?

    If you have some way to test with Edge pre-Fall Creator Update, then try it too, you should see some difference also.

    I was considering today that maybe this problem could be the same problem posted here (https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/platform/issues/15098559/).

    I mean, maybe it is not a 3d transform speed problem, but the shadow’ transparency used in the page flip animation. This transparency problem could be the same saw in the bug’ topic I copied here.

    Just an idea.

    BTW, yesterday I did a clean uninstall of graphic drivers as they were messed up by Fall Creators Update, then after restar I installed WHQL ones from Nvidia, but this did not fix the problem.

    I have made three videos, the same sample recorded in Edge, Chrome and Firefox.

    Please note that the videos do not show as clearly the smoothness or stuttering as seen directly on screen; the animation smoothness of Firefox, Chrome (and before Fall Creators Update, of Edge too) is actually smooth as silk.

    On the other hand, the current animation stuttering of Edge is actually worse than seen in video.

    I captured them at maximum frames per second (60fps) with the included Windows 10 Game DVR tool. Anyway, I think these videos should give you a good idea of the problem.

    By the way, as explained in the other topic linked above, I recovered a backup done before updating to Fall Creators Update (FCU), and I have observed that at that point (so, before FCU) this problem was not there!! Edge performed this smooth as silk (as Firefox etc)

    Then I have let the OS to update today another time to Fall Creators Update (and previous automatic updates).

    Result? The problem has appeared another time!. So it is confirmed that -in some way- it appears with Fall Creators Update…

    I hope you can help me, I thought that I could solve it by doing the FCU another time from an old backup, but it didn’t work.

    Thank you for providing more information about the issue. We are investigating this might be specific to the Nvidia Quadro K620. If you can, test a different driver for now and see if that resolves the problem. Please let us know any other graphic drivers which have this problem.
