Can't enable Microsoft Update on Win 7 using IE 11, without first adding to IE Compatibility View list

Steps to reproduce


Repro Steps:

  1. Standard DVD install of Windows 7, or any Windows Deployment Services system image prior to the installation of Internet Explorer 10 or 11.

  2. Go to Windows Update in the Control Panel and, without doing anything with Microsoft Update, just repeatedly manually update Windows, restart as requested, then check for more updates and install, restart, etc, until it says no more important updates are found. This will result in Internet Explorer 11 being installed as an important update.

  3. When it says no more important updates, go to the Windows Update control panel, and attempt to enable Microsoft Update. This will fail to be possible, unless is added to the browser’s “compatibility view” list.

Expected Results:

Start -> Control Panel -> Small Icon View -> Windows Updates

Get updates for other Microsoft products -> Click on “Find out more”

Internet Explorer 11 should open to the page to accept the Microsoft Update agreement and enable Microsoft Update.
