  • There is something wrong with the virtual hard dive for Hyper-V. It is not compatible with Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.16299.334].

  • Hi Robin,

I was able to import the image and run it. See the attached screenshot for the drive information in the VM’s settings.  I have not noticed any issues.  Will you verify the MD5 of the zip file you downloaded and compare it with what I have.  I used Powershell and my command and output are below.

    PS C:\VMs\drive_images> Get-FileHash .\IE11.Win7.HyperV.zip -Algorithm MD5

    Algorithm       Hash                                                                   Path
    ---------       ----                                                                   ----
    MD5             ED1F93E3E67F86445FAFB8BC43DB9717                                       C:\VMs\drive_images\IE11.Win7.HyperV.zip

I did make three other changes.

    1. I increased the memory to 4096 MB.  I believe only 2024 MB is required.  It defaulted to 1024 MB.
    2. I increased the CPUs to 3.
    3. I disabled checkpointing.

I do not think these changes will impact the VM starting up, however, I wanted you to be aware.

Let me know about the MD5 and then we can debug this further.

    Steve

  • Hi Steve,

The MD5 hash of my downloaded file is identical to yours:

    PS D:\Downloads> Get-FileHash .\IE11.Win7.HyperV.zip -Algorithm MD5

    Algorithm Hash Path

    MD5 ED1F93E3E67F86445FAFB8BC43DB9717 D:\Downloads\IE11.Win7.HyperV…

Having configured the VM as per the recommendtations above, I still get:

Attached, please find a video documenting the behavior.

    Thanks,

  • Update:

The MD5 hash of the extracted VHDX file is:

    PS D:\VMs\IE11.Win7.HyperV\Virtual Hard Disks> Get-FileHash ‘.\IE11 - Win7.vhdx’ -Algorithm MD5

    Algorithm Hash Path

    MD5 A3E3630D139173B8FFDB624D489F9EE7 D:\VMs\IE11.Win7.HyperV\Virtu…

  • Update:

I have extracted the VHDX file via Windows Explorer. The MD5 hash is the same.

    PS D:> Get-FileHash ‘.\IE11 - Win7.vhdx’ -Algorithm MD5

    Algorithm Hash Path

    MD5 A3E3630D139173B8FFDB624D489F9EE7 D:\IE11 - Win7.vhdx

I can only conclude that the VHDX file is intact.

  • It seems there is/ was something wrong with Hyper-V on my version of Windows, as it was not working at all, so I removed this feature and switched to the VirtualBox OVA.

  • I appears that there is an issue between the IDE controller for your system and hyper-V.  I know you already switched to VirtualBox, however, if you try again using Hyper-V, I would try adding a SCSI controller or re-adding the IDE controller.

Even before that, I would verify you have the latest chipset and storage drivers for your computer.
