Steps to reproduce

Edge does not show the green address bar even when sites are using a EV-cert. Edge wil only show the grey padlock.
The problem is seen on multiple (but not all) computers and on all websites using a EV-cert for instance when you surf to: https://www.bonnieradvocaten.nl only the grey padlock is shown even though the site uses a EV-Cert and the certificate-chain is in order.

Please see the attached screenshot.

Other browsers like: IE, Firefox, Chrome do show the green-bar.

  • Hi,

I am seeing the green padlock.  See the attached screenshot.

Will you provide the extended version of Windows 10 you are using?  Win + S and type “winver” and hit enter.

Perhaps an issue with your local certificate store?  Let me know and we can debug this further.  I also suggest trying this from another Windows 10 machine.

  • Hi Steve,

    The output for winver:
    Version 1709 build 16299.371

The issue with Edge is seen across multiple machines (at home) oddly enough the systems i manage at work do not exhibit this problem.

I don’t think it’s a Cert-store issues since IE on the same machines does show the green bar.

I’ve found others that seem to have similar issues with Edge

  • Hi Ruben,

Thank you for the quick response.  I will investigate this further.

  • Eric,

It seems as if Edge is treating the EV-cert as a OV (Organisation Validation) certificate, since Edge does show the municipality and country-code in the Certificate details, but not the company name.

Please see the screenshot i attached.

  • Where i wrote Eric i meant Steve ofcourse :)

    (I’ve had a short night)

  • Is SmartScreen enabled on the machine that is reproducing this issue? When you disable SmartScreen for Microsoft Edge, the UI can revert to the non-EV UI.

  • Smartscreen is disabled yes.

Is this by design, i mean the EV-Cert UI (the green bar) shouldn’t be tied to having Smartscreen enabled…

Changed Title from “Edge does not show green adress on sites with EV cert” to “Edge does not show EV Trust badge when SmartScreen is enabled”

  • Doesn’t work whether smarscreen is disabled or not. The website is also hosted on iis as well.

  • I have the same issue and my winver is 17763.167.
It is very disappointing to see it did not fix in these months.

  • I am having same issue of no green bar for some websites in both IE and edge.

So I have gone to CA websites for eg https://www.digicert.com/ have EV certificate but IE and edge doesn’t show green address bar.

While other website https://www.entrust.net shows green bar on IE and Edge.

So something is missing in certificate or problem with local CA store?

    Winver: 1903 (build: 18362.239)
