Steps to reproduce

Microsoft Edge doesn’t respect the autocorrection feature from Windows 10. I am running a German Language and German keyboard layout. All “Typing” options are turned off, the browser has been restarted and the OS has also been restarted multiple times.

Edge just keeps capitalizing random words which is extremly annoying as it reduces the usability.

I am now using Tampermonkey with a script called “Disable Spellcheck Globally” to fix this, but it has an impact on performance.

This appears to be a widespread issue. See: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/edge/forum/edge_other-edge_win10/edge-keeps-spell-checking-even-with-both-settings/7fdc9ecf-5721-4dbe-b8aa-6fef96da7662

    • I have Norwegian as my keyboard layout and spellchecking language but using English as display language. Edge changes small I into a large I as you can see her. I am actually unable to comment here with a small I. All spell checking options turned off but it still capitalizes the i.

    • I have the same problem, persisting for months now, on UK version of Windows 10. It’s incredible that this was reported 3 years ago and NOTHING was done yet: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/apps_windows_10-msedge/edge-keeps-spell-checking-even-with-both-settings/7fdc9ecf-5721-4dbe-b8aa-6fef96da7662

One note though - any kind of spell checking or auto-correct, should always be opt-in, not opt-out, as this can lead to results unexpected/undesired by the user (like changed input when filling data into forms for online orders, etc.).

    • can’t type any dutch language in website textboxes without them being garbled into what autocorrect thinks are English words… and even ctrl-z doesn’t work (which normally undoes an autocorrect change in normal programs like Word…)

    • I have the same issue. It’s amazing this problem has been around since 2015 and no one is fixing it!

    • Hi Kevin!

Thank you for contacting us about this issue! Based on the information you provided, I was unable to reproduce this problem. Setting my system language to German and typing “der schnelle braune Fuchs sprang über den faulen Hund” resulted in none of the auto-correct issues you are describing. For now, I will resolve this issue as "Not Reproducible". If you are still experiencing this issue then please feel free to reopen this issue and provide me with a video demonstrating the problem.

      Thanks,
      Zach

      Changed Status to “Not reproducible”

    • I have the exact same issue. (While typing the text I am typing in this very comment field) I am using a Norwegian keyboard layout With Norwegian language settings, but using English as the Windows Display language.

See https://gist.github.com/couven92/b172af41c6be631de6877a92afae0e98 for screenshots of the settings and how it looks like. Let me know if I should include more to help reproduce the issue.

This issue is so annoying (I had to go back and re-type multiple auto-corrected words in this comment). Because of this issue, Microsoft Edge is unusable for me.
