Steps to reproduce

Since last week, Facebook touch/mobile site https://touch.facebook.com no longer works in Edge on Windows 10 Mobile build 10.0.15254.490 (Lumia 950 device). The issue is confirmed by many other users.

I seems as there is a JavaScript issue, the top menubar is displayed but the rest of the page is never loaded.

Note that it works using following link http://touch.facebook.com/friends/center or if you set to prefer Desktop version of web sites in Edge settings but it is not a solution at all. It had worked for years.

    • Also fails to open https://m.facebook.com when in mobile mode (gets redirected to mbasic.facebook.com). Again setting Edge to desktop mode allows the site to open as usual.

    • Could you please elaborate what the “Site Outreach” status means? The issue affects many users and there is apparently a problem because the top menubar is loaded but the browser gets stuck then.

    • “Site Outreach” means that the team will talk to the site owners to help them correct the compatibility problem with their content.

    • Try “AIR for Facebook” app, it works normally with no issues.

      No, third-part app dependency is not a solution at all. It must work in default Edge browser.

    • Yeah, for sure not a solution. However, for the time being, you can use the app until the website works as it should.

    • Note that 3rd party apps like SlimSocial for Facebook stopped to work right now as well. When you open comments under a photo it hangs a JavaScript in the embedded browser (WebView) similar way.

    • I can add more detailed information. It looks like Facebook intentionally block Windows Phone/Mobile devices. I used Edge browser on PC, the Emulation mode of Developer Tools.

      The good thing is you can easily reproduce the issue on PC device, steps:

      1. start Edge browser
      2. navigate to https://touch.facebook.com and login to your Facebook account

      Everything works …

      1. open Developer Tools, on Emulation tab select Browser Profile: Windows Phone
      2. reload the Facebook page

      Now you can see the page loading is stuck on the throbber

      If you modify the Custom user agent string that you remove ‘Windows Phone’ text from it, the web page works again.

      Please tell the Facebook there is no reason to block Windows phone devices.

    • Thanks for the additional information.  The outreach team is attempting to reach the site owners to resolve this issue.  

    • Is there any update? After December 2018 update to OS Build 15254.544 the behavior is a bit different. The Facebook timeline web page displays placeholders for individual items but there is no content. If you remove Mobile from User-Agent string, everything works fine. I think the issue affects a lof of people so please check it.
