Steps to reproduce

When the browser.notifications.create API is called from the Adblock Plus extension, the entire Edge browser crashes. See related Adblock Plus issue

Steps to reproduce

  1. Navigate to about:flags and ensure “Enable extension developer features” is checked.
  2. Navigate to and install Adblock Plus.
  3. Ensure Adblock Plus is enabled in Edge.
  4. Open “…” Edge menu, Click "Extensions", hover over "Adblock Plus", click cog icon, click “Background page” button in “Inspect:” section.
  5. Paste this code:

type: "basic",
iconUrl: "icons/abp-16.png",
title: "crash test",
message: “hello world”

What happens

Edge crashes.

What I expected

Edge doesn’t crash, a notification is displayed.

I’m running Edge 42.17134.1.0, Adblock Plus 0.9.11, Windows 10 (10.0.17134 Build 17134)

    • I am also experiencing this same issue. I build/maintain an edge extension and notifications worked in the previous version of Edge/was working early last month (December 2018), but no longer work. After some extensive debugging I was able to determine that the notification api is broken. I am currently using:
      Microsoft Edge 44.17763.1.0
      Microsoft EdgeHTML 18.17763

    • Reporting the same bug - after latest Windows10 updates Edge browser crashes when some web extension uses browser.notifications.create API.
*Note: After manually uninstalling the KB4480976 update, the notifications begin to work again.

    • Any news about this? This is a very serious bug that crashes ALL extensions in Edge that use notifications. So the only solution at the moment is to publish a version of the extension with disabled notifications.
