Steps to reproduce

Please try copying content with text and images from Microsoft Word and paste into any editor/textarea on the web through IE11. The text is pasted without the images. This seems to occur after updating to Internet Explorer 11.0.110. There was no issue with copying and pasting images from word to IE11 before this update.

    • Copying anything from Word into a normal textarea on a browser will strip out any rich text content (including images).

A text area on a website only supports text unless it’s a rich text editor such as tinymce or other third party javascript plugins.

    • @Fred, thank you for the response.
I am indeed trying to paste the contents into tinymce. I am unable to paste the images from word to IE after the update to 11.0.110.

    • I have the exact same issue using tinyMCE. And it also happens in both gmail and hotmail editor, always using IE11. The issue does not happen in Chrome.

    • Hi we have the same issue pasting into ie11 since the update.

We are trying to paste items into DIV elements and not Textareas, this has always worked prior to the update. Are there any workarounds to this issue, IE11 is still a large portion of our user base and our customers see this as a regression.

It’s a common use case to be able to copy and paste. Safari has had a similar breaking change, however it does provide an alternative way to fetch images from the clipboard.

Could you please explain the by design status?

      • Is it to not allow pasting into Textarea html tags
      • or for contenteditable=true divs
      • or to not allow image pasting at all on IE11?

      security-related issues.
