Steps to reproduce

I have a similar problem as one of the issues someone reported last year.

i’m using Visual Studio 2017, with Selenium for automated testing
I’m running several tests on Firefox, Chrome they work fine. But Edge is having problems, it opens a blank page but then just fails the test and shows this message:

Message: Initialization method V5AutomatedTests.V5ReportBrowsersCheck.V5ReportEdgeTests.SetUp threw exception. OpenQA.Selenium.WebDriverException: OpenQA.Selenium.WebDriverException: A exception with a null response was thrown sending an HTTP request to the remote WebDriver server for URL http://localhost:64208/session. The status of the exception was ReceiveFailure, and the message was: The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a receive. —> System.Net.WebException: The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a receive. —> System.IO.IOException: Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host. —> System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.

Checking the issues page I think the probelm is a version mismatch my Windows has the version 17763, while the Webdriver is only at 17134.
My question is should I downgrade back to 17134 or wait for a new webdriver?

    • Hi David!

Thanks for contacting us about this issue! MicrosoftWebDriver is now a Windows Feature on Demand. To install it, run the following command in an elevated command prompt:

      DISM.exe /Online /Add-Capability /CapabilityName:Microsoft.WebDriver~~~~0.0.1.0

By default, this will install the webdriver to “C:\Windows\SysWOW64\MicrosoftWebDriver.exe”

This version will work with Microsoft Edge 44.17763.1.0 Microsoft EdgeHTML 18.17763. Please let me know if you need any additional help.

      Thanks,

      Zach
