Repro Steps:

Run this visual studio 2013 project:

(on port 49172 in virtual-directory virt_x with page dragout.htm)

Drag&drop either Eadui2.ttf or HTML5CheatSheet.pdf to the desktop.
Works in Chrome.

Expected Results:

Dragging a file from web-page to desktop creates the file on desktop

      Thank you for providing this information about the issue. Originally, we see this issue because drag&drop from Edge to Desktop is not supported. Once this is supported, this sample code is still not going to work, as W3C does not allow setData to work with file data. Another issue is that you are calling setData with an unknown format, and string data, which we do not treat as a file. You should try downloading the file and then calling datatransfer.items.add(file).
