document.referrer returns https referrer URL on a non secure page

Steps to reproduce


Repro Steps:

  1. Navigate to
  2. Find the “Library” (Bibliothèques in french) link at the top of the page
  3. Open the F12 tool and add the following attribute to the link: target="_blank"
  4. Click on the link found at step 2
  5. A new tab should now open on the non secure site
  6. Open the F12 tool and type in the console "document.referrer", then <enter>

Expected Results:

document.referrer should return an empty string?
