Thank you for providing this information about the issue. We confirmed the problem, and implemented a solution on a later build of Edge. We are resolving this issue as a duplicate of an existing internal bug report. We look forward to additional feedback you may have on how we can improve Microsoft Edge.

Dear James/MS Edge Team,
elm.fire_event("dblclick"), so that is a nice workaround if you only need to use it a couple of times, but that is not enough for me because I need it way more than that. I really need to be able to use the double_click functionality in the Edge webdriver.
Do you have an indication in which version it will be fixed?
Because currently, there is no (visible) progress for more than a year.
