Repro Steps:

Windows 8.1

  1. Launch Narrator (start -> type Narrator)

  2. Visit https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/377471/browser-tests/select.html

  3. Under the heading “Label wrapped” click on the text [NOT the dropdown] titled ‘name’ next the first drop down box and listen to what is read back to you by narrator. NOTE the description is read “name a b”

  4. Now on the page under the heading ‘label for/id’ click on the text ‘name’ and listen to the narrator.

  5. Perform steps 2-3 in FF or Chrome.

<old repro steps>
go to https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/377471/browser-tests/select.html and inspect accessible name and description of first example.

Expected Results:

When a HTML select element is wrapped in a label element the resulting accessible name in both MSAA and UIA is the text contained within the label only, not the option element contents.
When the select element also has a non empty title attribute the accessible description is the content of the title attribute.

Actual Results:

Narrator correctly reads the label in IE only when the element is assigned an id. The ID is not required for narrator to work with other browsers.
