Steps to reproduce

Prerequisite: Surface Pro 3 with i7, 2 GB of 8 GB RAM is available, 3-5% CPU load.

  1. Open Windows Task Manager
  2. Go to
  3. Navigate to some heavy page or search results page like
Actual result #1: While page is navigating, Edge process CPU load at 20-30%, banner “ is not responding” showing up occasionally, browser app briefly becomes unresponsive, page load takes 15-20 seconds.
Expected result #1: Edge process CPU load kept low, no banner " is not responding", browser app is fast and fluid, page load takes less than seconds.
  4. Right once page load spinner is changed to a site favicon in the tab header, open up one of the links in the search results.
Actual result #2: nothing happens, site is unresponsive to the clicks, layout is still readjusting while there is no spinner/loader icon in the tab header, whole browser app becomes slow. After 10-15 seconds, browser starts navigating to the clicked link (sometimes not).
Expected result #2: browser starts navigating to the clicked link immediately
  5. Once another page is loaded, press F5 to refresh the page.
Actual result #3: browser becomes unresponsive for several seconds, even cannot switch to another tab, then occasionally starts refreshing the page.
Expected result #3: browser starts refreshing the page immediately, browser app is fast and fluid despite tab is loading the website or idling.
  6. Go through 1…4 on Lumia 950 XL.
Actual result #4: experiencing even worse performance degradation.
Expected result #4: experiencing fast and fluid navigation.
Bottom line - navigation experience can be MUCH better, even IE worked better than Edge in some occasions.

  • This is an issue w/ the website itself. It’s also slow using Chrome on my Mac. If you look at the network traffic, the page makes over 2000 requests totaling over 14mb in under a minute. It’s full of ad traffic.

  • Khoi P., exactly, but the problem is that browser becomes unresponsive unlike Google Chrome which handles these websites without such issues, and this has to be fixed in Edge, otherwise people won’t use it.
