Steps to reproduce

Browse to a site that uses basic auth.
Type a username, press tab key. A tab will show in the username field, and the cursor is not moved to the password field.
Typing tab again will go to the next field, but login will fail.
Only one tab will be typed, only in the username field. Deleting the tab will allow another to be typed.

Update :

The problem is only occurring on a Surface 3 with a Type Cover Keyboard, running Win 10 Home.
A usb keyboard, or the onscreen keyboard do not have the problem.
Problem occurs with any basic auth page (search for http basic auth demo).
Does not happen in IE 11.
Problem never occurs if there are numbers, symbols or spaces in the username field.
Problem is very likely to happen with dictionary words, and very unlikely to happen with non-dictionary words.
Problem: "a", "i", "as", root, admin, open
No-Problem: "z", "m", "em", asdf, oypn
The problem also occurs with some near-dictionary words:
opan opin opun opyn
opeb opem opeh opej (near keyboard letters)
With the word “authentication” entered in the username field:
I can type one tab in any of these places (represented with a slash)
"a/u/thenti/c/a/t/i/o/n/"Multiple tabs can be typed (but where it occurs is different)

    • Thank you for your feedback. We have been unsuccessful reproducing this issue on MS Edge. Expected behaviour from Tab key is to shift the focus between form elements unless it is customized in another way. To investigate this issue further could you please provide us more details about the issue or a sample page or link that can demonstrate the issue?

      All the best,
      The MS Edge Team

    • I appreciate the update. We will look into that.

      Changed Status to “Not reproducible”

    • Just experienced this issue on a Surface Pro 4 with Type Cover. I was using username ‘admin’ but can also confirm the same behaviour with other examples give by Daniel.

    • This issue no longer repros as it has been fixed in recent iterations. Build used to verify is Insiders’ Fast 14295.
