Steps to reproduce

I experience delays in the UI in Microsoft Edge 25.10586.0.0. It is most obvious when opening a new tab. If I start with a single blank tab open and click on the new tab button it takes over 5 seconds for the new tab to appear in the tabstrip.
To try and diagnose this I have used Process Monitor to capture the events during this time. I’ve attached a zip of the process monitor log.
From the log, at 3:26:01.9488644 I clicked the new tab button.
At 3:26:02.2237042 thread 13964 stops activity and thread 18228 starts looping through performing the same set of registry accesses over and over again and uses full cpu (25% on a quad core) until 3:26:07.6929142 when thread 18228 stops accessing the registry and thread 13964 resumes and the new tab finally appears in the browser.
Looking at the stack trace of the registry calls made by thread 18228 I see functions like GetApplicationLanguagesWithUserLanguagesFallback and GetApplicationLayoutDirection, so this leads me to believe that perhaps there’s a problem loading something language related and it keeps retrying before eventually timing out.
In control panel the only language I have installed is English (Australia). I also tried going into the advanced language settings in control panel and trying different settings for the “Override for Windows display language” setting and the “Language for web content” setting with no change in behaviour.

  • Hello,

Thanks for your patience and taking the time to provide this item of feedback.

We are wondering if this happens when you are using a child account or not.  Also it might be of some help if you could provide the output from a dxdiag for us so we can analyze the hardware requirements of your environment.

    All the best,
    The MS Edge Team

  • I have had a delay in edge since most recent updates. It is driving me crazy. Like other user, 3-5 second opening a tab. Closing window or any other action results in a delay before action.

Not my system, I run a high end system and this never happened prior to any recent updates

  • Is this delay happening with child accounts for anyone seeing a delay with new tabs?

  • I am experiencing the same issue. A long delay when opening the tab. A good 5 seconds. I do not have this issue in explorer. I have a high end computer and fast internet speed. The issue only occurs in Edge.

  • Getting this too and it’s driving me crazy. Also, if I click repeatedly while waiting for a new tab to open then multiple tabs open simultaneously after a few seconds. Also seeing occasional delays when switching between active tabs. It’s like Edge has been swapped out to disk and I have to wait for it to be swapped back in.

  • Just to provide an update, I happened to try edge again today and it seems this issue is no longer happening, so I’m guessing it was fixed in one of the updates over the last few months.

  • Thank you for the update. We will leave the item in the resolved state based on your feedback. If you do happen to experience this problem with a Child account please let us know so that we may investigate.
