Steps to reproduce

If an entire site is protected via htaccess, edge continually asks for the user/pass if pointing just to the IP (have not tested with domain names).

  • Going to http://192.168.7.3 will bring up user/pass form, but entering correct information will just bring up the request again. If you click cancel, it shows the 401 page. But if you change the url to http://192.168.7.3/index.html the page loads just fine. Once you’ve loaded the page, if you change the url back to just the IP, it will forward to index.html properly.

  • Restarting edge and going to http://192.168.7.3/index.html directly will bring up the user/pass form and then accept the password properly.

  • Going to http://192.168.7.3/dirname also works just fine.

  • Authentication by going to http://192.168.7.3 works fine on IE, Firefox, and Chrome

  • I believe this is someone else having the same issue too.

Changed Assigned To to “Christian F.”

    • This appears to only be a problem when using lighttpd. I just tested with nginx and it seems to work just fine.

Changed Assigned To from “Christian F.” to “Brad E.”

    • Sorry - typo, it shows the 401 error page, not 451.

    • Sorry for the delay in getting back to you on this item of feedback. I setup an environment and tested this out in later builds and am not able to repro this. I specifically tested 14911.1000, which is a bit newer than our anniversary update (14393). If you are still seeing this after testing in 14393 or higher please feel free to re-open this item so we can help.

      All the best,
      The MS Edge Team
