Steps to reproduce

Windows 10 Pro
Version 1511
OS Build 10586.164
Microsoft Edge 25.10586.0.0
Microsoft EdgeHTML 13.10586
For sample code, see:-
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/36573191/microsoft-edge-script7002-xmlhttprequest-network-error-0x2efd-could-not-comp
Page in first domain 10.119.103.10 makes an XHR request to a second domain 10.119.103.2 fails with the following error
SCRIPT7002: XMLHttpRequest: Network Error 0x2efd, Could not complete the operation due to error 00002efd
The request doesn’t even reach the server, it is rejected immediately by the client, so cors doesn’t even come into play (the server is cors aware). The following output from the test page shows this:
OPEN http://10.119.103.2/~adf/RMC2/trunk/server/?r=get
SEND
READY 4 STATUS 0 TYPE
The same test code works in Internet Explorer, Chrome on Windows 10
It also work on Microsoft Edge on Windows 10 Mobile (Version 1511 build 10.0.10586.164)

  • If xhr-test is loaded as http://10.119.103.10/xhr-test.html
it can make CORS requests to 10.119.103.10 and localhost but not 10.119.103.2

If xhr-test is loaded as http://localhost/xhr-test.html

  • I am at least was,a windows insider.Since one of the later builds
completely messed up the os,i had to resort to the iso i’d previously downloaded. This installed as usual with no glitches but
left me with no way of downloading new builds as the Microsoft
account client can’t see my internet connection, niether can Edge.

any apps utilising the same connection protocols as Edge display
the same problem with a variety of versions of the same “i’m Messed up” message.
I found this error code by looking at the developer tools debug console, but am too xtml illiterate to do much with it.

I am extremely disappointed with windows 10 in general, microsoft
help has done nothing of any substance that I am aware of to
alleviate this persistent problem, save turn out reams of things to try.So far I have not had any results from hours wasted poking 10
    with a stick…

  • I’ve just had a faint hope that Whilst i’m signed in to my account via
ie 11,i could try fixing the insider preview but as with Edge,it still
fails at every turn.so thes must be a bug which is in desperate need of sorting. This must be deeper than just the error code produced in Edge,i can’t give feed back,i can’t download new builds,i can’t use the store, ican’t use edge.I CAN use XP.

  • Still happening on Edge 25.10586.0.0, EdgeHTML 13.10586. There is additional information here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/37868673/edge-on-windows-10-32-bit-blocking-ajax-call-to-localhost-with-network-error-0x2

The same error was appearing for me in Chrome. Ensuring that “Access-Control-Allow-Origin: *” was included in the header on the local webserver fixed the issue for Chrome, but not Edge.

  • Can’t consistently load web pages on either Edge or Chrome. When/if they eventually do load, changing to different sites often creates a ‘Can’t reach that site’ type error. I very much assume it is due to the latest Windows 10 update (Servicing stack update for Windows 10 Version 1607: August 23, 2016).

  • When I open with Edge, the stylesheets won’t be loaded, and the console outputs

    Current window: github.com
SCRIPT7002: XMLHttpRequest: Network Error 0x2efd, Could not complete the operation due to error 00002efd.
    4

    But Chrome works well.

  • There is something wrong with the Markdown support…
    I mean opening https://github.com/

  • The root cause is:

SCRIPT7002: XMLHttpRequest: Network Error 0x2efd, Could not complete the operation due to error 00002efd

You will need to look into the code to be anymore specific about why it is happening.

  • Changed Status to “Needs root cause”
