Steps to reproduce

  1. Create a sample extension with popup page, in popup page, add the following element:   <a href="http://www.microsoft.com" target="_blank">Test</a>
  1. load the extension and click the link

Expected: A new tab is created with the target url

Actual: nothing happens

Workaround:
The only workaround is to send a message to the background script and have the background script open a new tab using the browser.tabs API that navigates to the URL.

    • I am in Windows 10 15063 but the problem is only fixed for http links. While I try to navigate to my extension settings page with a new tab it fails.
