Steps to reproduce

In the following HTML

<div style="colour:#009688">+44 (0) 1234 567890</div>

Edge is treating the text as a telephone number as if it has type="tel". If the "+44 (0) " is deleted the text is treated as text and not a phone number.

This works as expected in the latest versions of Chrome and Firefox.
