Steps to reproduce
Microsoft Edge does not appear to allow base64 images for favicons. If you attempt to do so there is no change to the favicon. This affects many sites which change the favicon based on notifications on that tab.
Running the following code in Chrome or Firefox changes the favicon to some lovely bacon:
$('link[rel="shortcut icon"], link[rel=icon]').attr('href', 'data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAACAAAAAgBAMAAACBVGfHAAAAGFBMVEX///92AAD/ZWX/y5mZZTPcAADMmGYAAADt91N9AAAAAXRSTlMAQObYZgAAAAFiS0dEAIgFHUgAAAAJcEhZcwAACxMAAAsTAQCanBgAAAAHdElNRQffAw8VFyuDrXKRAAAARElEQVQoz2NgKAcBBhCAsjAFjJWMoQIQFroAQQUM5WmhaVABCAtTwCXUBSoAYWEIAGlBuIggRAm6AGFrCAmMML8QinwA5Ll18Uv3u78AAAAASUVORK5CYII=');
Running it in Edge causes no effect.

Any idea when this will be serviced?
Never is the short answer.
Favicons supported by any other browser (even IE11) are not supported in Edge.
