Steps to reproduce

Scrolling a page before the ads have finished loading (which basically everyone does) results in the page not responding to mouse over or :hover events, and if you scroll far enough, you’ll out pace the buffer that Edge has rendered and it’ll take a while before content pops into view. Seems to happen more frequently on sites that are ad supported, so it may have something to do with having multiple iframes on the page… Or maybe your new JavaScript event deterring system is working against you? Whatever the case, the majority of sites I visit feel painfully slow and unresponsive in this latest build of Edge. If you guys are testing with AdBlockers on… turn them off so you can see how the rest of the world experiences the web. Really need to fix these issues before launch as it’s unusable at this point. The only Extension I have enabled is LastPass.

    • I forgot to mention… it also doesn’t seem to respond to clicks while it’s hanging, even though you can scroll up/down the already rendered buffer… This is a big problem for lots of major sites that are ad supported such as:

      • Mashable.com
      • Facebook.com
      • WonderHowTo.com
      • HowToGeek.com
      • NYTimes.com
      • CNN.com

      And many more…

    • Ok… just updated to 14372 and I’m having the same problem… That said, disabling LastPass MASSIVELY improves responsiveness. Not sure if it’s their fault, or the extension API’s fault… but seeing as LastPass works perfectly fine with no noticable performance impact in all other browsers, it seems likely this is something Edge specific.

    • Hello,

Thanks for providing feedback on Edge for us. This is a known issue and we are working hard on getting it fixed ASAP.

We look forward to more feedback you have in the future regarding Edge.

      All the best,
      The MS Edge Team

      Changed Status to “By design”

    • Build 14388 brought some massive improvements here! Very relieved to be able to scroll through my favorite sites without them hanging :). Nice work!

    • Still hangs occasionally when clicking between pages. Almost as if it’s waiting for the ads unload beacons to finish firing on the UI thread (a wild guess).

    • “By Design” is definitive the wrong status for this problem. It is still a big problem with build 14915. Look at Feedback-Hub, there are many entries created about performance problems since last week. With Feedback-Hub I have monitored some performance data with different devices. One device is a i7-5820k / 4x4 GB DDR4 / GeForce 650Ti OC and I have a lot of “not responding” messages (font of the tabs are darker for some seconds). Also the ads are sometimes playing very slow like a flip-book (after they are fully loaded).

For me it looks like there are (at least) two problems:
      a) Edge has problems to load content at the same time (concurrent) from different domains
      b) rendering problems, so that the animations did not reach their target speed (i.e. 15fps)

    • Changed Status from “By design”

    • Oh would you look at that… Edge hanging is by design. Brilliant. Great job team. Definitely the right way to handle this bug.
