Steps to reproduce


Please read and understand the whole post before responding.

I have a Lumia 1020 with Windows Phone 8.1.
OS version: 8.10.14219.341.
This phone is not eligible for the Windows 10 update.

I bought this phone in October 2013 and since then I have struggled with the browser crashing.
It doesn’t happen at the same site everytime it is more of a come and go problem.
It can also happen if I scroll to fast on a larger site.
After some time you kinda start accepting that the browser doesn’t always work but other times you just get so angry.
As when I had to reach my banks website in a store and the site repeatedly crashed internet explorer so that I had to borrow my friends Samsung to reach the website.

I don’t know but I think that employee just had a bad day at work or something when closing the thread and posting:
“Thank you for the feedback. This issue appears to have been fixed in Microsoft Edge Windows 10 Phone. We’re not presently working on feature bugs in Internet Explorer outside of security-related issues.

Is this fair after 2 years? It is a joke and disrespectful. What it is is like saying:
“Oh we encountered a problem, well lets just wait until a new OS is released and the hardware becomes old.”
I mean the phone is old and sure, I would probably need a new one soon. The Microsoft experience is what I think the worst experience ever.

So now I want to know what is being done on this problem for the phones that can’t upgrade to Windows 10.

      Sorry about the problems you are having with your Windows Mobile device. We do care about our customers and the feedback you have provided to us here. 

      With that being said, the truth is that we do not have any plans to provide users with the ability to switch to Windows 10 (other than by signing up for the Windows Insider program) on the Lumia 1020 at this time. There are a lot of new features with the Win 10 Mobile operating system and though these would fix many issues (including the one you have referenced), it could have a negative user experience for the majority of our end users. This is backed up by much research and analysis that we have done and is not in any way intended to punish our loyal customers.

      Thank you for your reply.
      I fully understand that you would not send out Windows 10 to Lumia 1020 as I understand it was meant to get it first but due to negative user experience feedback from preview it did not get it. As I see it, it is the correct choice if the phone can not handle it.

      But, now back to the problem. When my Lumia 1020 can not have Windows 10 and a bug was discovered years ago that greatly impact the usage of the phone. (It is not fun to ask others for Android or IOS phones when you really need to access the web and you only have your Windows Phone that would not let you access the page without crashing.)

      So for the devices that can not have WIndows 10 and the bug is known since before Windows 10, I think it is fair to fix the bug at least for all Windows Phone 8.1 users out there. How can people otherwise trust Microsoft in the future? A bug that greatly impact the user experience and the use of the product and it never gets fixed. You are supposed to buy a new device in the future and give a second chance? No, do not think so.

      What you should ask yourself, if a bug is discovered. You can not use the phone as expected. Over 2 years later the fix is "Buy a new phone.". Would you buy a phone with Microsoft OS then? No, I didn’t think so.

    • +1. I’ll be upgrading my o/s, just not to Windows.

    • I prefer a windows phone than any other os not because of the prize. Even on computers, I prefer MS but why cant microsoft just give its users all the convenience (more of it) to operate it same way when you introduced the first user friendly computer operation… Upgrading to the latest version doesn’t give us the relief we need and the answers we asked for. Is Microsoft waiting for all its loyal users to turn their backs on them and shift to it’s competitors? Can’t figure out how bill gates continue to hire these people crashing his business to the ground as much as how windows crashed when used…

      FYI, the year is 2017. My lumia 640xl is running the latest version of windows 10(not a preview build). I am so frustated with edge browser. It reloads pages several times automatically, crashes and presents a blank white screen which can be overcome only by restarting edge. The most awful edge experience that you have is by watching youtube videos. The blank white screen pops up multiple times while watching a video, I have to restart edge and load the video over and over again.

      I have shared this feedback via feedback app multiple times, yet I do not have an ETA for the the fix. If its taking longer to fix, why not rollback to the last version in which things were smooth? Why punish poor guys like me who cannot afford a new phone every year ?

      If I am missing something please educate me.

    • Like Niranjan, I have the same problem with 640 DS.

    • My phone has the exact same issue as described my Niranjan. I believe it is due to low memory availability… To an extent this is mitigated by restarting the phone as it frees up some memory…
