Steps to reproduce

  1. Visit this Tweet containing emoji
  2. Copy full text/emoji contents
  3. Paste into textarea
  4. Note retention of emoji (or lack thereof)

(Repeat for Edge, and Chrome)

Copying from Edge retains:

\uD83E\uDD23 \uD83E\uDD5E
\uD83E\uDD59 \uD83E\uDD53

Copying from Chrome appears to have full retention.

    • The problem here seems to be with the copying of images with [alt] attributes. Microsoft Edge doesn’t appear to pick up the value of the [alt] attribute, whereas Chrome does. As such, Chrome copies all of the emojis (lifting values out of the [alt] attribute), but Edge only copies the emojis that are displayed directly, and not as images.

    • No way. I can reproduce this issue.

On the contrary, I cannot copy/paste any emojis on Twitter.

      For example:

Its profile says "✨ Get Emoji on Twitter ☺️⛰✌️⛱❣⛹⚖", but through copy/paste with Edge, it becmes " Get Emoji on Twitter ".
