Steps to reproduce

When displaying WHEEL OF DHARMA (U+2638) using the Segoe UI Symbol font, the browser displays a six-spoked wheel instead of an eight-spoked wheel like it should be. Other fonts properly display an eight-spoked wheel, as can be seen here: http://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/char/2638/fontsupport.htm

  • Whenever I visit that link in Firefox, the Segoe UI Symbol shows a six spoked wheel in all browsers, including Firefox.  Can you provide more detail regarding repro steps so that I can see the 8 spoked wheel as you describe?

I’ve attached a screenshot showing what I describe above.

  • If you click the “view all” link at the top of the font list, you can see that nearly all other fonts use the eight-spoked wheel. Also note that that list is using server-generated images to show what the character looks like in different fonts. To see the text rendering of the character, you can visit the browser test page http://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/char/2638/browsertest.htm which also shows the six-spoked rendering.

7/12/16 Chrome bug 627218 deferred to this Microsoft font bug

On Windows 8.1, some of the local Microsoft fonts have 8 spokes, Segoe UI Symbols has 6. See the www.fileformat local font list tool
Most fonts use the Segoe UI Symbol as a fallback. Only 4 or 5 MS* fonts, and Arial Unicode MS, use 8 spokes.
The local font list tool displays the same in IE and Chrome.
    Attached as Dharma-LocalFontList.

In Win8.1 the browsertest page (See Ilya K. above) shows 8 spokes for IE, 6 for Chrome. Chrome uses Segoe UI Symbol.
