Steps to reproduce

  1. install the FB Purity edge extension via http://beta.fbpurity.com
  2. goto facebook.com
  3. close the browser
  4. the following error message will popup https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Cl3RzoYWkAAFItd.jpg:large
the text of the message is “Something went wrong with your extensions, so we had to reinstall them. You’ll need to turn them on again”
  5. what actually happens is the extension appears to be uninstalled after that, so you need to re-install the extension
  6. on re-installing the extension, any settings you saved previously in the extension will still be there.

    All the best,
    The MS Edge Team

  • I have the exact same issue #creatorsupdate

  • I am having the same problem… message ' something went wrong with your extensions, so we had to reinstall them. you will need to turn them on again. help

  • I am getting this error message consistently. I uninstalled and re-installed the extensions. It has nothing to do with Facebook.

  • Ditto. Every few minutes.

  • Where are my extensions that are not turned on???

  • Very annoying, get message every time I open Edge in Windows 10. I’ve also tried uninstalling & reinstalling my extensions. Nothing seems to eliminate the message from hell. My updates in Windows 10/Edge are up to date. Time to return to Firefox.

  • Same issue here with only two extensions installed: AdBlock and PrintFriendly and PDF.
Edge is a fine browser and it’d be a shame if that bug prevented people from using it.

  • I was sent an update for Print Friendly and PDF and it solved the problem!
    s d, update Print Friendly.

  • I’ve deleted Print Friendly and that seems to be working so far. Thanks.

  • Updated yesterday both extensions and now they work fine.

  • It does seem to be fixed now, also for anyone who is interested, FB Purity, the safe, free and top rated extension that lets you clean up and customize Facebook is now available directly from the Microsoft Windows Store:

  • I am having the same problem, a few extensions like ghostery, evernote, and lastpass, and no updates availables. Under last Creator Update build 15063.540).

  • Was there ever a workaround for this issue? I’m getting this message each time I start Edge and all my extensions are reinstalled. Build 17604.rs_prerelease.180209-1422. Getting kind of annoying now and I’ve searched everywhere for a fix. Tried Settings/apps and uninstalling from there and then reinstalling through Microsoft Store, clearing all browsing data, rebooting my pc, running the Windows Store troubleshooter etc etc

  • I’m apparently running into this as well. What I’m trying is to submit an extension to the Microsoft Store that is working mostly fine locally, but the review team say it crashes:

Unfortunately, we can’t test your app, because:

The app crashes while trying to load.

    Steps to Reproduce:

    1. Launch the extension.
    2. Access https://airhorner.com. (website displayed in screenshots)
    3. Notice that the notification displayed stating “something went wrong with your extensions, so we had to reinstall them. You’ll need to turn them on again”)

Occasionally I do get the error they mention in step 3, but when I don’t get it, the extension just works fine. Judging from this bug’s thread, this seems not to be an issue of the extension in question, but an Edge issue.

Here are the relevant system details:

    • OS Name: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro
    • OS Version: 10.0.17713 N/A Build 17713
    • Microsoft Edge: 43.17713.1000.0
    • Microsoft EdgeHTML: 18.17713

The extension passes the Windows App Certification Kit Toolkit tests, here’s the tool’s output.

I have blogged my experience, and it seems like we’re not alone to be affected by this.
